England players will be given greater confidence on the pitch under Sam Allardyce, says his former assistant manager Neil McDonald. Allardyces appointment was finally confirmed just before 4pm on Friday after a compensation deal was agreed with Sunderland.McDonald worked alongside Allardyce as first-team coach at Bolton and was his assistant manager at Blackburn and West Ham and he backs his former colleague to get England playing well as a team. Hell bring the confidence out of the players, he told Sky Sports News HQ.Theyll certainly have a role and responsibility, theyll have an idea on what distances, what fitness stats, how many passes theyre going to make and when theyre going to make it.But at the same time [hell get the players] to express themselves because theyre good players and thats why they play for England. McDonald (L) has worked with Allardyce at Bolton, Blackburn and West Ham McDonald, who was last assistant to Allardyce from 2011 to 2015 at West Ham, says he would love the opportunity to be re-united with the 61-year-old at the national level. He added: Yes it would be great [to work with Allardyce again]. Working with him is a pleasure, he lets you get on with your job. He delegates to his staff very well but everyone knows who the manager is.Hes a leader and inspires everybody to do the job as well as they possibly can. Over the last few years theyve had that success and it would be great to work with him again.Michael Ricketts believes Allardyce has all the attributes needed to be a success as England manager - and insists his reputation for using long-ball tactics is unfair. Allardyces appointment was announced on Friday afternoon once compensation had been agreed with Sunderland Striker Ricketts spent three years playing under Allardyce at Bolton between 2000 and 2003, with the one-cap England international scoring 46 goals in his two-and-a-half years at the club.Allardyce moves into the national role with his tactics at times perceived by some as a negative but Ricketts is adamant he is more versatile than he is credited for.The 37-year-old said: Everyone talks about his style of football but football is all about winning and England want a winning team. When he was at Bolton he had (Youri) Djorkaeff, a World Cup winner. He had Jay-Jay Okocha, an absolute flair player. Michael Ricketts says theres more to Allardyce than a long-ball game Hes been at other clubs and had flair players there too so its not just about the long ball. I think the long ball tag has been with him such a long time hes never going to get away from it.But I just dont think that applies in football nowadays anyway. Obviously they talk about man-management and I think the main thing about Sam is he is a very good man-manager.Tactically, he is very aware. He knows how to set up and put out a team and knows how to combat teams who are offensively against him. London Calling? Ashley Coles Italian adventure could be a short one. Only having joined Roma on a free from Chelsea in the summer, the Daily Mail reports that the former England international is wanted on loan to help shore up Crystal Palaces back line. Now 33, Cole had a spell on loan at Selhurst Park back in 2000 when the left-back couldnt break into the Arsenal squad behind Sylvinho. Having been dropped from Rudi Garcias starting XI in favour of Greek international Jose Holebas, Roma might be open to idea of a loan for Cole, whos on a two-year deal. The issue, though, could be wages. Palaces highest paid player is on £40,000 a week, while Coles salary is double that. The Real Deal? Having emerged as arguably the top goalkeeper in the BPL this season, David De Gea is a wanted man. The 24-year-old shined again this past weekend in Manchester Uniteds 3-0 win over Liverpool at Old Trafford, making eight savings, including a stunning stop on Mario Balotelli. With two years remaining on De Geas current deal, the Daily Express reports that Real Madrid is willing to break the transfer record for a keeper to bring the former Atletico man back to Spain. The current record for a goalkeeper transfer is the £33 million that Juventus paid in 2001 to bring Gigi Buffon to Torino fromm Parma.dddddddddddd Incumbent Real goalkeeper Iker Casillas has been plagued by failing form in recent years, including at this past summers World Cup, and Real manager Carlo Ancelotti isnt enamoured with internal options in Costa Rican international Keylor Navas and Spanish under-21 international Fernando Pacheco. Though its believed that United has yet to open negotiations on a new deal for De Gea, the time is more than willing to offer him a massive pay increase to fend off interest from the reigning European champions. Simon Sits? In Sundays 3-0 loss to United, embattled Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers dropped goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to the bench after a string of poor performances in favour of Brad Jones. The Australian international did little to instill confidence from his manager, going the wrong way on goals by Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. Sitting 11th in the table, 18 points behind leaders Chelsea and seven behind West Ham for the final Champions League place, Rodgers could be looking for a permanent change in net and at a Premier League rival for the solution. The Daily Mirror reports that Liverpool will attempt to take Blues keeper Petr Cech on loan when the transfer window opens. Cech lost his spot as first-choice keeper at Stamford Bridge when Belgian international Thibault Courtois was recalled from his loan to Atletico in the summer. If a move for Cech falls through, the Reds could turn to Malagas Mexican international goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa. ' ' '
