Bell & Ross BR-X3 Patrouille de France Tricolor Dial Layout

Bell & Ross's collaboration with Patrouille de France continues, culminating in a new timepiece in 2026. The BR-X3 Patrouille de France features a 41mm square case constructed from a multi-layered structure of stainless steel and anodized aluminum. The dial employs a three-layered plate structure, creating a rich sense of depth, while the power reserve indicator is presented in three colors, paying homage to France. This timepiece is powered by a Kenissi automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve. The BR-X3 Patrouille de France is further enhanced by a striking blue fabric strap.

With the introduction of the BR-X3 series, Bell & Ross's instrument watch architecture transitions from a unibody case to modular assembly. As a direct successor to the standard BR-03 platform, the BR-X3 Patrouille de France (model BRX3R-PAF-ST/SRB) utilizes a multi-layered case structure and a Kenissi in-house developed movement. This limited edition of 250 pieces was created to commemorate Bell & Ross's partnership with the French Air Force aerobatic team in 2021, incorporating the team's iconic colors into major retail markets. The transformation from the basic BR-03 to the BR-X3 involves a complex structure, altering the standard square pilot's watch's dimensions and technical specifications. The use of advanced materials and a chronometer-certified movement fundamentally elevates this timepiece from a basic aviation tool to a highly precise mechanical instrument.

Case and Dial

The 41mm case features a multi-layered structure, skillfully combining satin-polished stainless steel with micro-blasted blue anodized aluminum. At 13.30mm thick, the square design gives it a significantly larger surface area than a traditional 41mm round case, with corners extending diagonally to the wrist. Polished chamfers create a smoother transition at the top plate edge and securely connect it to the middle case via functional locating screws at the four corners. A round blue anodized aluminum bezel, positioned between the top plate and the middle case, provides structural support. The use of blue aluminum extends to the decorative side pillars, visually breaking the monotony of the steel case while reducing the overall thickness of the 13.30mm case. The screw-down crown is protected by an integrated steel crown guard, ensuring 100-meter water resistance, sufficient to withstand pressure changes and immersion in water.

The dial features a three-layer structure, creating a unique three-dimensional effect that distinguishes it from standard single-layer printed dials. The bottom layer is matte black, covered with blue and white openworked patches, and the top layer is a matte black insert. This layered structure separates the main chronograph functions from the complications, creating structural recesses for the sub-dials. The date window, located at 3 o'clock on the right side of the dial, displays three consecutive digits from the date wheel and is outlined by a unique stepped border. Opposite the date window, at 9 o'clock, is a recessed power reserve indicator to track the tension of the 70-hour mainspring. The sub-dial uses the blue, white, and red colors of the French flag, corresponding to the empty and full-marker sections respectively, clearly indicating the mainspring barrel's winding status.

On the dial, the inlaid "bathtub-shaped" hour markers are rhodium-plated and filled with white Super-LumiNova BGW9 X1 luminescent material, emitting a bright blue glow in low light conditions. These hour markers, shaped like a bathtub, have raised, polished surfaces that gleam against the matte black dial. The main hour and minute hands feature skeletonized bases, minimizing obstruction of the power reserve and date display; their tips are also filled with BGW9 luminescent material. The seconds hand is mounted on the central gear, its counterweight precisely machined to resemble the silhouette of an Alfa Romeo jet. The sapphire crystal glass is flush with the blue anodized aluminum bezel, featuring an anti-reflective coating that protects the crystal and prevents edge distortion common with domed sapphire crystals. The "Diamonds" emblem of the French Patrol Air Force is printed on the matte black dial at 6 o'clock.
